TIPS FOR KYOTO
Strengthening disaster prevention measures in historic districts and promoting “machineko activities”

While running a real estate business, Mr. Koide began working with local cats in 2018. From there, he engaged in dialogue with local residents, and now plays a role in supporting the foundations of the local community, such as serving as a member of the neighborhood association and disaster prevention committee.

Fostering mutual assistance among town cats and disaster prevention
The foundation for “disaster prevention and prosperity” in Kyoto’s historic districts was laid approximately 450 years ago. We continue to protect these historic areas and welcome people from all over the world as an international tourist city.
However, while the town is bustling, we must also take it upon ourselves to pioneer the next generation of disaster prevention measures to protect the safety of residents and tourists.We will raise disaster prevention awareness throughout the region through dialogue that transcends boundaries, and in the fall of 2026, we will start by holding a disaster prevention event for parents and children at the temple.
In addition, to address the local issue of stray cats, we have established a private organization and will begin supporting partner organizations in Kyoto that promote community cat activities based on rules. These activities, which aim to coexist with stray cats while respecting life, require the understanding and cooperation of the local community.
We sincerely ask all hotels and tourism businesses that support our activities to cooperate with the establishment of TIPSFOR. We ask all tourists to support us.

Protecting what we cherish, living together, connecting hearts, and creating the future.
I have people, animals, landscapes, cultures, and histories that I wish to protect. I want to build their future together with those who live, work, study, visit, and support this land. My hope is to connect with those who share this vision and pass it down to the generations to come.
In a world defined by impermanence (Shogyo Mujo), what never loses its radiance is the “faith” (Shin) within people. The source of that radiance is found in local community activities. Among these, the roles I have been given are “Machi-neko” (community cat) initiatives and the safety and disaster resilience of our town.
Together with all of you, I hope to create a town where we are kind to all living beings and where everyone can live in peace of heart.
